This coffee tour of the Kotowa Coffee Plantation gave me a new respect for the coffee bean. The tour was guided by Hans, a very knowledgeable Dutch coffee grower in Boquete. The tour began in the plantation and continued in the factory where we learned about the entire manufacturing process of making a coffee bean ready for consumption and sale. Hans explained the differences in various coffee trees, the bean sorting process, drying techniques and roasting. He also added lots of industry information which offered some insight into the coffee industry as a whole. Overall, the tour was exceptionally entertaining and ended with a coffee tasting.
