- Activity Details
- Hamburg, Germany - January 2010
If you are in the Speicherstadt in Hamburg visiting the Miniatur Wunderland Museum or the Spice Museum (both very much worth your time), make a quick stop at the Saint Nikolai Memorial. Only the main tower of the former cathedral is still intact and there is a viewing platform in the tower that you can pay to enter.
This cathedral was destroyed in 1943 by the firestorm Operation Gomorrha and is now a memorial to honor the victims of the war and persecution. The cathedral was actually the world's tallest building for a very short period of time (between 1874 and 1876).
